Serves: 12 tortillas

Cook time: 30-40 min

Difficulty: easy
Ingredients

- 3 cups (360g) white flour + 1/3 cup (40g) for dusting
- ½ cup (115g) melted butter
- 1 cup (240ml) hot water
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
Step-by-step
1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the white flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir the ingredients together until well blended.

2
Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the hot water and melted butter.

3
Use a spatula to mix the ingredients until they cool slightly, then use your hands to form the dough. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tougher tortillas.

4
Knead the dough for about 1-2 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.

5
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions of approximately 62g each and roll each portion into a ball.

6
Cover the dough balls with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let them rest for at least 10 minutes. This resting period allows the gluten to relax, making it easier to roll out the tortillas.

7
After resting, take one dough ball at a time and flatten it slightly. On a lightly floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a thin circle, about 10-11 inches (27-28 cm) in diameter, keeping the thickness as even as possible.

8
Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the rolled tortilla on the skillet and cook for about 30 seconds on each side, or until lightly browned and puffed. Repeat this process for the remaining tortillas, stacking them on a plate and covering them with a towel to keep warm.

Note: Store the tortillas in a plastic zip-top bag in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, or freeze them for longer storage.
