Serves: 20-22 slices

Time: 30 minutes + 2 hours in oven

Difficulty: medium

Ingredients

  • 2 oranges
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) dark chocolate, melted
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Handful of any roasted nuts, chopped

Step-by-step

1

Slice the oranges into 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick slices.

2

Place the orange slices in a pot of boiling water and boil for about 8 minutes.

3

Remove the orange slices from the pot and transfer them into a bowl of ice-cold water with a few ice cubes to stop the cooking process.

4

In a large 12-inch skillet, add 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar, about 1/2 cup (120 ml) of water, a pinch of nutmeg, and a pinch of ground cloves.

5

Once the sugar has dissolved, add the orange slices to the skillet.

6

Simmer over medium heat until the liquid evaporates and it becomes a thick syrup, about 8 minutes.

7

Remove the caramelized orange slices and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat the process starting from step 4 if necessary.

8

Place the tray in the oven at 160°F (70°C) for about 2 hours, or until the orange slices are completely dry.

Note: If the orange slices feel still sticky, after removing the tray from the oven, you can leave the overnight in dry place.

9

Once the orange slices are dry, dip them halfway into the melted dark chocolate. Sprinkle some chopped nuts of your choice over the chocolate while it’s still wet.

10

Allow the orange slices to cool and the chocolate to harden before serving.
